Math Team

Reed-Custer Middle School Math Team Sponsors: 

When: Begins during the month of November as practice, before the actual try-out.

Where: Meets during lunchtime a few times a week. Students pick up a hot lunch or bring their cold lunch to the math teacher’s room to eat and work on math concepts.

Try-outs for Team: Students will try-out for math team by taking actual math team test(s) from previous years’ contest. The try-out will occur before the end of January. Each grade level math teacher will decide when to hold try-outs and will inform the students of when this will occur. The try-out occurs during the school day. 

Math Team: Students who have made the math team, continue to attend lunch sessions until our contest, which is usually held in April.  Math Team students will try-out again to determine the 5 students that will compete at contest and 2 alternates that will attend.

Contest: RCMS attends 1 contest (usually in April on a Monday) which is held immediately after school. A bus transports the students to the school hosting the contest. At contest, the team and alternates take an individual test (no calculator/30 minutes) and then a team test (calculator/30 minutes). Then a light dinner is served and awards are announced. This usually ends around 6:30-7:00, and then we board the bus back to RCMS. Parents are welcome to attend the awards portion only and then take their child home, or meet us at RCMS to take their child home.
